Visualize your Success!

During my MBA days, one of our professors asked us one day, “So, what do you want to be after passing MBA?” The class replied in an unanimous tone “HR Manager”.

Professor smiled and called one of the students to his desk. An interesting conversation followed.

Prof “So, you want to be a HR Manager”

Student “Yes Sir”

Prof ” Now tell me more clearly, in which city you want to work”

Student “Bangalore”

Prof ” Which part of Bangalore”

Student ” Electronics City”

Prof ” Tell me the colour of your office building”

Student smiles and says ” Sir, how do I know that? Am yet to even pass my exams”

Professor gave him a friendly pat on his back and asked him to sit down. What followed next was an introduction to the wonderful concept of Visualization.

Professor explained that it’s not enough to have a BIG dream. It’s important to visualize the dream in it’s minutest of details. He asked us to visualize the colour of the office building, how tall are the gates, the campus, the lobby, reception, the desk/cubicle where we would spend our days, the look of the room, the colour of the walls, the exact format of our business cards, the attire we would be in…..every possible details that our minds could represent! We followed his instructions and everyone looked happy visualizing the future they wanted.

The concept of visualization is not new. But many of us do not practice it well. We dream, without detailing the dream. The concept has a close connection with laws of physics as it directly relates to the Concept of Energy. It’s also called the Law of Attraction. We attract good, bad and **** towards us by the power of our thoughts. Most of the times, we aren’t conscious of what we think but I am sure many will agree that when we get something (good/bad); atleast for once we would have said this in our minds “hey this is exactly what I was thinking of!”

Few tips to help you visualize better:

  • Put a picture of the object/person/situation that you want (at your  desk/on the fridge etc) it will help you to focus
  • Write down the details of your dream as minutely as possible
  • Close your eyes for few minutes in a day and put yourself in the exact situation that you want to be in; visualize it like a movie running in  your mind. Keep doing this everyday, as clearly as you can
  • Disassociate from negativity- negative people, negative situations, negative objects who can become an obstacle between you and your  dream
  • Trust the goodness of Life and be Grateful for the things you have

I will narrate a real life example to make my point clearer. Hollywood actor  Jim Carrey had faced a lot of struggles in his childhood before he achieved name and fame. In the early days when he was struggling for a breakthrough in Hollywood, he would drive his car every day and say to himself, “One day I will be very famous, very rich”. He wrote a cheque of $ 10 million, post dated it10 years   and kept it in his pocket even before he did his debut film. From time to time, he would look at the cheque and visualize himself achieving it. In the following years, with his hard work and determination, he did become very famous and he was paid exactly $   for his movie Dumb and Dumber.

So, if this really works, why not paint a beautiful picture in our minds and visualize the future, the way we want it? May be more friends, more joyful moments, more laughter, better jobs, good health etc etc etc.

And from that moment on, the universe will get out bringing it to you…exactly the way you wanted it!

All the Best!
