Great News for Taxpayers! ITR 2019 Filing Deadline Extended to 31st August

For taxpayers who were to file their returns by 31st July, the due date has now been extended to 31st August.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) confirmed this via a press release dated 23rd July.

This extension is applicable to all assessees except corporate taxpayers and a few non-corporate entities.

Moreover, the ITR-1 form has also been simplified to make it easier for salaried employees to e-file their returns.

Checklist for e-filing returns

If you are a salaried employee, you will need accurate information about income, taxes deducted and taxes already paid. The below checklist will be useful while filing your returns:

  • Form 16: Tax deducted at source (TDS) certificate provided by your employer
  • Form 26AS: Consolidated record of various taxes deducted from your income (e.g. FD interest) and deposited with the Government; can be downloaded through netbanking
  • ITR Form: Salaried employees must fill ITR-1 when e-filing taxes
  • Bank accounts details and IFSC codes: You will need to list them in the ITR form
